Recently the Nest Hello went through a firmware update that may cause some chime functionality issues. This firmware update has caused most chimes (not just ours) to not ring consistently. There are a few steps you can take that should result in a return to proper operation. The process below should take about 5-10 minutes.
IF THESE STEPS DO NOT WORK FOR YOU, PLEASE CALL US AT 732-876-3034 OR EMAIL AT service@ohmkat.com AND WE WILL HELP SOLVE THE PROBLEM.
Before you begin, please note that you do not need the chime connector provided by Nest (the little white circle with wires attached). Using it will cause the system to not work properly.
Step 1:
Go into the settings on the Nest app for the Nest Hello. There are two settings to check. Make sure the Indoor Chime setting is set to "ON." Then set Chime Duration to "ON" and "1 second" duration.
Step 2:
It is important to test the chime without the Nest. It is a simple process. Unscrew the Nest Hello from the back plate. Then remove the two wires from the Nest Hello and set it aside. Make sure the OhmKat power supply and chime are plugged in and connected. Now touch the wires together a few times (there is no risk of shock). You should hear the OhmKat chime. If you do, your chime is working properly. If you do not hear the chime it may have become unpaired. Pairing instructions can be found here.
Step 3:
While your Nest is detached, also unplug the power supply and leave everything unplugged for at least 2 minutes. This will allow the power supply and Nest Hello to refresh. Now reattach the Nest and the chime transmitter to the power supply making sure all the connections are tight. Once the Nest Hello powers up, ring the doorbell. It should ring. If not go to step 4.
Step 4:
If all else fails, you will need to do a hard reset of your Nest Hello. Have the Nest Hello attached to power, but off of the back plate. You should see a pinhole button in the back of the Nest. With the small tool provided with the Nest Hello or a paper clip, push the button inside the pinhole. Then simultaneously press the doorbell button on the front. Hold both buttons down for at least a minute. This will clear all settings in your Nest.
Delete the Nest Hello from the app and go through the install process from the beginning. Make sure you select chime on and set chime duration to one second.
If your chime does not work after these steps, please contact us and we will help you.
