We recently purchased a house that is equipped with an extensive security system including a skybell slim video doorbell. We were disappointed to discover that, although the skybell sent notifications to our phone, there was no audible tone when a visitor pressed the door bell on the inside of the house. It was very easy to miss visitors or deliveries if you were not near your phone to receive the skybell notification.
My wife discovered the ohmcat product which seems to be the only available solution to this problem if you don’t have a previously installed analog or digital doorbell wire to the front door. All we had access to was the power adapter for the skybell that was wired directly into the wall to the skybell on the other side and plugged into a power socket a fair distance from the front door..
We ordered the ohmcat Wireless Universal Video Doorbell Chime and a set of male & female 5.5mm x 2.1mm power connectors with solder terminals. We then cut the exposed power adapter line, soldering the female connector to the power adapter end and the male connector to the skybell end of the cut line. We then plugged these connectors together to verify that everything still worked with skybell as it did before we split the line. Once we established that this worked we plugged in the ohmcat transmitter between the newly installed adapted plugs, plugged in the ohmcat chime into a nearby power plug and, voila, we now have a working doorbell! The skybell unit works as it did before the ohmcat transmitter was installed.
This was a great solution to our problem. If you are handy, have access to the required tools and have a limited access to the skybell power wiring like us this May be a good solution for you. It worked for us!
